CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Gippal, Final Fantasy X-2
In-Game Name: Gippal Cuhlens
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Position & Ship: Winding Way, 1st-Mechanic, 2nd-Gunner
Appearance: Gippal's of an average height for a guy, not too tall and not too short. His hair's blonde, and worn in a spiky style, with a couple of stray pieces hanging down. His eyes are a bright green, and like many others in the Mechanic's Guild outside Trewe, they have a swirl-pattern to the pupil. Of course, you can only see one of his eyes, as he's taken to wearing an eyepatch. (However, he's staying mum about why. Whether it's for looks, or because there was an accident, he's not telling.) He prefers bright clothing and gloves, but practically chosen for working with machines, none of that frilly silky stuff.
Personality: Gippal is nothing if not a loud personality. He is blatantly cocky, utterly confident in his capabilities both as a mechanic and a marksman. He sometimes comes across as a ladies' man, although he really is more of a good-natured flirt. He knows just how to get under someone's skin and tease them, and enjoys both the process and the reaction. He loves to crack a good joke and can seem incapable of being serious. In fact, sometimes he can take the joking so far that it seems almost mean-spirited.
But for all his fun-loving ways, he's got an incredibly strong work ethic. He's constantly got his fingers into a mechanical project, looking for a way to improve existing technology and how to expand it. He's also a naturally born leader, charismatic. Yet he doesn't have to be in utter control and knows the best way to get a job done is to delegate, and the best way to lead is by example. He's also a devoted friend, taking loyalty quite seriously, while exhibiting it for himself.
Abilities/Weapons: Skilled mechanic, great marksman. He can build his own guns and fire them as well. But if it's mechanical, he can manipulate it. Specifically speaking, his expertise spans both repair and creation, especially mobile, defensive and offensive machinery. He excels at taking spare parts and converting them into useful machines, as well as researching ways to improve upon his creations and those of other people. His charisma is an ability of its own as well, making him a natural leader. It's a role that he fills easily, but by choosing to lead by example; getting his hands dirty is far more preferable than delegating everything to others. In general, he's an annoying yet lovable punk, capable of getting under someone's skin, and at the same time, making his victim smile or laugh.
How well can your character hack? Very Hard.
Weaknesses: Being a joker is all well and good, but a lot of the time, it gets downright irritating, and Gippal's no exemption from that. His love of getting under people's skin can get old and annoying after a while. Also, following the failed Antrim mission, he's gotten absorbed in his work, trying to forget everything that happened there. And try to get him to be serious and open up? Not happening. He'd rather joke and shoo you off course than actually share what's going on inside. Physically speaking, there's something up with that right eye of his. Not that he'll tell why he's wearing an eyepatch, but it's very much in place. Just his presence there hinders his vision, and he's had to try to compensate around it to maintain his capabilities with a gun.
History: Gippal grew up in the midst of the Mechanics Guild living just outside of Trewe. As a result, he grew up surrounded by plenty of machines to tinker with, and showed quite the aptitude for repairs and new inventions as a surprisingly early age.
Yet every young man wants to make his mark on the world, and being from a land in between two others, he found himself unwanted for either the Ivonnan or the Vohemar military. When he was 16, an opportunity to prove himself. There were advertisements for an elite force, called the Crimson Squad. They were advertised as special forces and guards, rather than mere mercenaries, that were to accompany and protect a private group wishing to convert Antrim into a lively and prosperous city again.
The candidates for the Squad were charged with exploring the city and looking for evidence of what caused its demise, then assist with the rebuilding and repopulation projects. What happened was far worse. Something about the ghost town struck the candidates with madness, and in their insanity, they began to turn on each other, until only Gippal and three others escaped alive.
Following their escape from Antrim, the survivors were delighted to know that they were selected to stay on in Antrim and help with the project, both as founders and ongoing defenders. As they left their debriefing with their employers, someone opened fire on them, presumably to shut them up. They barely escaped, and decided as a group to split up and lay low.
Gippal spent the next two years living in obscurity in a small town, far from anywhere he was known. He made a living working on machines, and researching weapons development in his spare time. The townsfolk came to respect him, but it wasn't enough for him. Yet there was a lucky break. The Parliament in Ivonna was bombed, and lucky him, the head honchos from the Antrim days were among the casualties. Seizing hold of this opportunity, he sought to get a position on an airship where he could use his talents, and check in on a childhood friend.
